Our Next Litter

English Setter Dog Breeding – JC Smith

Consistent with our goal of producing quality companion hunting dogs,  and hunting these dogs on wild birds, we seek to place puppies with hunting homes. Puppies will be ready to go after 9 weeks of age, with veterinarian administered initial vaccinations, micro-chips, and certified BAER tests for bi-lateral hearing. Please go to the blog portion of our website for the latest information on current litters or breeding plans.

Every litter is whelped in the house, kept clean and away from negative influences, and receives abundant direct contact and socialization. Currently, we accept a $300 towards a purchase price of $2000 to secure your choice of a puppy from our next available litter.  You need to indicate if you wish a male or female in advance, and be prepared to pick up or otherwise select a pup by the first weekend following the day on which the litter is 9 weeks of age. We will provide interested buyers a copy of our deposit receipt and sales agreement, which must be completed and submitted back to us when placing a deposit.  We can work with you on shipping if truly necessary. Some additonal expense will be incurred for crate, freight and transport to the airport.

We use two important screening tools in breeding dogs and placing puppies. All our dogs, and the dogs we breed to, have had radiographs (x-ray images) evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for the quality of hip conformation and presence/absence of hip dysplasia. OFA screening has proven the most effective and widely used tool in North America to help eliminate hip dysplasia. We use OFA's process to look at elbow conformation as well. Each puppy we place is also examined before it goes to a new home to confirm it hears in both ears using a tool called Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER). BAER testing is not widely available. Fortunately, it's available near us.

Sugar Creek English Setters
Sugar Creek Chiquita

Sugar Creek Chiquita

“Chica” as we call her, is our pick from a 2015 breeding of our Pinecoble Josephine to October Mountain River. That breeding brought the best remaining original Ryman bloodlines into our program through River with the help of the Weisse’s of October Setters. She is a heavily marked orange belton with a perpetually happy manner in the house. In the field, Chica demonstrates great athleticism, strong natural retrieving instinct, intensity on birds, and a lot of dash and spirit within a moderate range. In her second year she has proven herself well on grouse and woodcock, retrieving graciously to hand and handling well with minimal direction. Click this link to see Chica’s pedigree and OFA Certificate. Chica is rated OFA Good and is BAER certified bilateral hearing.
